The ferns of Great Britain and Ireland

Collection Data

Description
The illustrations in this work are the result of incorporating ferns into the printing process. Uniquely suited because of their two dimensional shape, ferns were pressed into soft lead and electroplated, becoming an intaglio printing plate. The result was then inked by hand. Fern motifs were in vogue at this time during the Victorian era, and can be found on decorative objects as well.
